Protect a dry resting option

Check bedding, entry mats and blankets more often when outdoor moisture repeatedly comes indoors. A surface can remain damp beneath a dry-looking top layer. Rotate suitable washable layers and allow full drying before reuse. Keep at least one comfortable resting option available throughout laundry and cleanup.

Maintain a comfortable room environment with appropriate ventilation, while keeping doors and windows secure. Avoid placing the bed directly beside wet equipment or in a draught. If drying clothes crowds the usual resting space, rearrange the human equipment rather than expecting the dog to sleep among trailing fabric and stands.

Choose small indoor activities

Have a few familiar options ready, such as an easy toy search, gentle reward-based practice or a suitable supervised food activity. Match them to the dog's health, mobility and preferences. Clear enough floor space for the chosen task and use a secure surface. An indoor game should not involve skidding around furniture to compensate for a shorter walk.

Keep activities brief and allow disengagement. More time indoors does not mean every quiet moment needs entertainment. Rest, companionship and ordinary exploration can still form part of a useful day. Account for food used in activities within the usual feeding arrangement.

Keep outings flexible

Choose suitable windows and routes according to conditions and the individual dog. Check for slippery surfaces, flooding and reduced visibility rather than looking only at rainfall. Prepare towels and equipment before leaving so the return remains calm. A shorter comfortable outing may be more useful than completing the usual distance through worsening conditions.

Review the week without blaming the weather for every change. If the dog seems persistently uncomfortable, restless or unwell, seek appropriate advice. A rainy-week plan supports normal care; it does not replace necessary exercise guidance or professional assessment. Keep the setup simple enough to sustain for several days rather than planning a new elaborate game for every wet afternoon.
