A plucky 7 year old boy called Roman McConn has saved over 1300 dogs from kill shelters since he started his campaign in 2016. Roman from Augusta Georgia, started way back when he was first only 4 years old when he asked friends and family to donate money over gifts to help save shelter dogs. At that point Roman and his mum Jennifer would drive the dogs from Texas to Washington where they were adopted.
Jennifer back in 2016 then decided to become more active to save these precious dogs and created their website at Project Freedom Ride which is a non profit organisation dedicated to saving dogs from kill shelters. Since its inception they have saved over 2000 cats and dogs from euthanasia and the project goes from strength to strength. With the help of adding simple videos to FaceBook, Jennifer was able to spread the word and get homes for the dogs.
Since the project started it has gained much support and momentum and in November 2018 Roman was awarded the ASPCA’s 2018 “Kid of the Year” award Quite and achievement for such a young kind hearted boy.
Every weekend Roman and his mum go to the shelters to video the dogs and try to find them new homes. The process usually takes around 4 weeks to find new homes for the dogs depending on their health and costs can vary to transport them.

As word spread after recognition with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals it also reached the Ellen Degeneres show and Roman appeared on the show. Roman was gifted with $20,000 on the show from their sponsor at Cheerios to help support their cause, see the video below.
Roman visits the shelters every weekend with his mum and makes new videos showing the dogs playing and being happy. “I don’t think dogs should just be in a shelter,” he said in an ASPCA video posted to YouTube. In the Ellen show he said he wanted all dogs in America to have homes and this was his mission.
